B. Obesity in Children

C. Government of India Obesity Guidelines

  1. The guide lines were released jointly by the health ministry, The Diabetic Foundation of India, All India Institute of medical science (AIIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and 20 other Organization.

  2. The Body mass index (BMI) considered as individual's fitness and obesity indicator is the ratio of body weigh in kilograms versus height in meter.

  3. India's new diagnostic cutoff for the body mass index is 23 Kg/m2 are suppose to 25 Kg/m2 used globally.

  4. A person with the BMI of 23 Kg/m2 will now be considered overweight and below that are normal.

  5. A person with BMI of 25 Kg/m2 will be clinically obese (as opposed to 30 Kg/m2 as at International level)

  6. A person with 32.5 Kg /m2 will require bariatic Surgery to eliminate the excess flab.

  7. Cutoff for waist circumferences will be 90cms for Indian Men (as opposed to 102 cms globally)

  8. Cutoff for waist circumferences will be 80cms for Indian Women (as opposed to 88 cms globally)

D. Risk factor

Among women, those whose weight increased from 5 to 7.9 kg during the 14 years period of the study had a risk of 1.9 times that of men who did not gain weight. The Risk was considerably reduced when they lost weight.

According to new analysis of the national Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANS) as body mass index increases, the average blood pressure, total cholesterol levels rise and average HDL Cholesterol levels decline.
